Foreign Object Damage (FOD) is the presence of alien or foreign objects inside the engines, that causes internal engine malfunction when the engine starts running. FOD is life-threatening. Just imagine what will happen to all the passengers in an airplane, when the airplane's engine malfunction in the mid-air.
FOD can be caused by engineers carelessness, resulting in misplacement of tools inside engines. To prevent FOD, MRO and aerospace companies have implemented comprehensive and costly measures, and one such measure is tools accountability, which is costly in terms of engineers' time, and also in the huge amount of paperwork and administration involved.
In an attempt to reduce costs as such, but at the same time still achieve the aim to prevent tools from missing, and ensure tools accountability, Daifuku Singapore and e-Tag RFID has jointly developed the RFID Smart Tool Box.
The RFID Smart Tool Box is capable of tracking all kinds of tools, irregardless of whether they are metal, non-metal, big or small.
